Bustin' at the seams!

No, not because I'm eating way too much, but because my mother is anxious about the gift giving!!! Both, Austin and Jacob know what they're getting for Christmas, my sister got her gift months ago and I'm pretty sure the rest of the family knows what they're getting too.  Honestly, a waste of paper!  Why wrap then?  I just don't get it!  I was doing really good, avoiding her and avoiding any type of conversation that would revolve around holiday time!  These conversations always lead to 'gifts'.  It's crazy!

Sunday, I walked into church, alone, and found a seat quickly before Gracie could spot me.  Too late!  In the middle of Silent Night I feel a tap on my shoulder.  Guess who's making her way to sit next to me?  Mom.  "Oh, hi, Mom!  Great to see you!"  I lie!  I knew she was gonna start talking about Christmas since they were singing Silent Night.  I was on pins and needles, hoping she wouldn't crack!  The choir begins to sing the second song, Oh Come All Ye Faithful.  Beautiful.  I looooove singing and listening to Christmas music.  Gracie is standing next to me, offbeat, and out of tune, but the spirit is shining right through her!  I'm thinking to myself, this is awesome.  She's having a great time and isn't able to really talk.  Keep singing mom!  I'm singing along and once the songs were over, we take our seats.  Here she goes....
"Are those new shoes?"  I respond by leaning over and not making any kind of eye contact and tell her, "no."  Gracie says, "Oh, they're pretty."  "Thanks, Mom."  2 seconds later- "Do you like my shoes?"  I look over at her shoes, again, not making eye contact and say, "yes." I know exactly where this is headed.  She leans over and asks. "Do you like these pants?"  This is it!  I'm done.  She's totally gonna start talking about the gifts at home.  Never fails.  She starts out slowly and when you least expect it,,,, BOOM!  I GOT YOU THIS!!! And will more than likely be holding the item up right in front of you!!!  I'm sitting in church and instead of praying for the needy, hungry, homeless, sick children, etc., I'm praying for her NOT to spill the beans!  We have 12 days, to be exact!  C'mon Mom, you can do it! Don't spoil it.  I close my eyes and keep my lips moving so she thinks I'm praying.  Calmness.  Quietness.  All we hear is the sermon.  Perfect.  I was so into the sermon and listening to what was being said.  It was a good ten minutes or so.  My mom leans over and says, "I got you a pair of these pants." BOOM!!!!!  Like a Jedi in the night, my mother, in 8 soft words, drops it on me!!!  My eyes opened to the size of saucers and mouth drops!  "MOM! Really??? In church??? Sneaky!"  So, now, I know what my gift is.  I'm trying, at this point, to pretend I didn't hear her, but I kept looking at her pants.  Totally cute!  I'm soooo gonna love them!  Now, I wish I had them!  No problem. She gave them too me later that night!  Ugh!  lol  Between Gracie and Raeya, we have no tradition and no surprises left!  "Scuse me, Gracie and Raeya, there are still a couple of us who believe in Santa!"

Later that day, the boys and I are at Gracie's.  We are scheduled to put Christmas lights on her house as promised to Raeya.  I'm putting some decors up in her house, lit garland around the windows, mantel, etc.  Mom pulls out two boxes of lights.  Not big boxes, but boxes that the lights actually come in!  First of all, not enough!  Second, they're nets!  "Mom, have you ever used these kinds of lights?"  With a very confused look she says, "no."  My next question was nothing short of genius.  "Mom, where are you going to put these 'nets' of lights? You don't have any bushels out front!!!"  Classic.  Her recovery answer was, "There aren't any more lights. Everyone is pretty much out."  hmmm... I seriously think if I drive on over to Wal-Mart I can find some regular, easy to hang, single strand lights.  No lights went up last night except the ones inside the house. Highlight of the night:  I got my pants!!!! And a blouse.  And 4 pairs of earrings.  And a ring!  Score!  This works for me!  "Thank you, MOM!!!"
